Paper Rings – Easy To Make!

paper rings

How to make paper rings wasn’t something I’d really thought of until I saw the ones my friend Terri made!

Paper rings, as I found out through having a go, can be surprisingly strong and very pretty.

Of course, they aren’t going to last forever, but guess what, you can make more!

Because they are reasonably quick and easy to make.

Have you ever wondered how to make paper rings?

Even if you haven’t, if you are a crafter, I think you will love this project.

As usual there will be a free printable for you at the end of this post.

So watch out for that.

The link will be in the caption under the picture of the free design right at the end of this post.

So what made me think about how to make paper rings?

Well as regular readers will know, my friend Terri kindly sent me a bag of her crafts from Australia last year.

She also sent instructions on how to make the many items in the bag.

So I have been attempting to make the things she made and these paper rings are my latest project.

And I really enjoyed it – the rings are very wearable if you seal them.

If you want to watch my video on how to make paper rings, click here.

In the tutorial, I do use a set of ring sizers and ring mandrels which you can buy in my Amazon shops.

BUT, you don’t neccessarily need them – you can make them without that expense.

(You can read my Amazon Affliate Statement here.)

Terri made her paper rings by using dowelling or big marker pens to shape her rings.

I just found it easier to use the mandrels but either way will work.

As I love my thumb rings, I made quite a few of mine in that size and I found it easier to know my exact size.

A bunch of ring sizers on a key ring comes with the mandrels.

The thing that makes these rings durable enough to last a few months, (longer if you are very careful), is using the right glue/sealer.

I used Mod Podge Hard Coat in my tutorial but, it doesn’t seem to be available on Amazon in the USA.

And the only one I found on UK Amazon was over £20!

So I have linked to the Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe version instead, but I suggest you use whatever hard sealer you can find.

You need something that will harden the rings.

You could use a chemical wood hardener but, I don’t recommned becuse of fumes.

In the video, I show how I decorated my paper rings.

You’ll see from these pictures, I chose to bling my up a bit.

I used rhinestones on a couple of rings – I got mine on Amazon and have linked to some below.

But have a look around online and in your local craft stores to see what you can find.

To fix my rhinestones and threads, I used Hi Tack Trimit Glue.

What about those pretty stickers I used on the paper rings?

The stickers you see me use in the tutorial are typically used to decorate nails.

So what you are looking for are dainty nail stickers.

I have only ever found them online, but you may be able to get them locally.

If not try these ones from Amazon:-

Those are just suggestions to get you going but have a good look, there are LOADS to choose from.

Of course you can have your paper rings however you want them.

Plain is lovely too, especially if you use some pretty scrap booking paper.

It’s all down to personal taste.

And as we made the lovely blinged up DIY bracelets last time, I decided to carry the techniques over to the paper rings.

Hopefully, after watching my tutorial, you will have some ideas on how to make paper rings.

You’ll probably have lots of ideas on how to decorate yours too.

Of course, these rings won’t last forever if you try to wear them all the time.

These are special occasion rings and no, you can’t wash dishes in them!

But they are fun to make and wear to parties because they are unique.

I love that I can make unusual rings that no one else has!

These are not like the flimsy Origami rings you may have seen

They are much more durable that that.

As I said earlier, there is a free printable design for you to download and use in your craft projects.

I used it to make these rings, but you can use it in any paper craft you like.

I used my latest free printable to make these rings

It comes in JPG and PDF formats.

I will put a picture of it at the very end of this post with the link in the picture caption.

It’s not easy to get the correct link on websites with adverts so that’s where my free printable links always are.

You can also find this new design and all my previous free designs on my free printables page.

Please read my Terms & Conditions for using the free designs.

I don’t have many rules, but please respect the few I do have – thank you.

Well that about wraps it up for how to make paper rings.
