Paper Bead Ideas – Transform Rubbish

Wherever I go, I am always thinking of new paper bead ideas.

A few weeks back, I was in The Range in a town far far away from where I live.

I was looking at all the enticing art and craft supplies as usual but not seeing quite what I wanted.

Some of my many paper bead ideas have turned me off expensive supplies.

Pretty as pre-printed paper is, I love the challenge of making paper beads from the unusual and the unwanted.

Imagine my excitement when I found this scrap in a garbage bin with a load of junk that had been swept up off the floor!

Doodling On Pebbles and Stones

  • by

Doodling on pebbles and stones is great fun and very inexpensive!

It is a craft that all ages and abilities can do and all you need are the kind of smooth, flat pebbles you find on the beach. If you want to go straight to my film on how I prepare my stones and then doodle on them, click here.

If you don’t live near the beach but want to try doodling on pebbles and stones, turn over some earth in your garden and see what kind of stones there are where you live – you may be lucky!

What craft stuff do you need for doodling on pebbles and stones?

The good news is, not much! You will of course need whatever pebbles or stones you have found for free and a couple of black fine liner pens. You may want to use a colored gel pen as well if you want to do what I have done here and add a dash of color. I used a red metallic glitter gel pen.

What is Art? – Part Two – Abstract Art Source Revealed

Abstract art – what does it mean to you?

A couple of posts ago, I wrote about the madness of art. At the end of the post, I showed a photograph (see below) of some art that I really liked when I saw it on the website of a fellow writer.

abstract art

Is this abstract art?

To me it is. From what little I know of its creation, it wasn’t intended to be a piece of abstract art but in my eyes, it ended up that way.

The origin of this work was in three dimensions. It was, as I am sure some people will see, a piece of pottery. You can read about it here on the website of the creator. (Not God :-))

The creator in this case was writer, Christoper Waldrop of Free Thinkers Anonymous whose quirky work I adore.

I first read about Christopher’s early dabblings with ceramics here in this very entertaining blog post about the eccentric sounding aunt who introduced him to clay.

When I saw his later post about the making of a ceramic bowl from small fish fashioned out of clay, I was intrigued to see the finished product and was looking forward to seeing pictures when it was done.

European Style Paper Beads Workshop Success

  • by

European style paper beads are so much fun to make and they shock so many people when you reveal that they are made from paper.

When I wear my bracelets made from European style paper beads, I get lots of compliments.

And when I casually say they are made from paper, very often, people will look at me as if I am joking!

When I run my workshops teaching people how to make these beads, it is brilliant to see their faces when we reach the point at which the real magic happens.

Christmas Crafts Decorations Made From Bread!

  • by

Christmas crafts are very sought after at this time of year.

There are some brilliant projects around but really – how on earth do you get these…

Yes really – I made these Christmas decorations from bread.

After making the first batch, I soon realised this is a brilliant way of making lots of trendy looking tree decorations quickly and cheaply.

They are so cheap and easy to make and, they look really do look trendy. You can find my step by step video tutorial on how to make these Christmas decorations here on YouTube.

I have seen decorations like this in the fashionable places where they sell ridiculously expensive home decor items to people with money to burn.

(Usually in places where they also have barn style cafe’s full of trendy food that costs a small fortune!)

There seems to be a thing going on for decorations that are quite textured with dense fibres.

Well guess what, that’s what these look like! And for a fraction of the cost.
